LANCASTER, Pa. – The Gettysburg men's lacrosse team registered another stellar defensive effort on Saturday, and junior defenseman
Tim Kurpis (Yorktown, N.Y./Yorktown) has been honored as the Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.
The award, the first collegiate player of the week honor of Kurpis' career, comes on the heels of the Bullets 16-5 Centennial Conference win at Swarthmore College. Kurpis factored heavily into the victory, as he limited the Garnet's leading scorer to no goals and one assist.
Kurpis and the Gettysburg defense have now limited their opponents to single-digit goal totals in its last four games and nine their last 10 outings.
For the season, Kurpis ranks third among the Bullets in caused turnovers (15) and fourth in ground balls (32).
The Bullets have now claimed five Centennial Conference player of the week awards this season, including four on the defensive side.
Gettysburg (10-3, 6-1 CC) has won its last eight games and has clinched second place in the Centennial Conference and the two seed in the upcoming conference playoff. The Bullets are ranked No. 6 in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Division III Poll released on Monday and conclude their regular season on Saturday, when they host Franklin & Marshall College in a Centennial Conference game starting at 1 p.m.
