ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – Junior heavyweight
Bobby Christopher (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Cardinal Gibbons) used up just over a minute of mat time in picking up a pair of pins at Elizabethtown College on Saturday, Jan. 16. As a team, Gettysburg College came up short in both of its matches, falling to New York University 32-12 and dropping a 40-12 decision to the hosts.
Christopher accounted for half of Gettysburg's (2-5) point total on the day, beginning with a 59-second fall against New York's Michael Cunningham. The Bullet junior then blasted through Elizabethtown's Mike Daub, taking down the Blue Jay heavyweight in just 14 seconds (Watch Video). Christopher improved to 14-4 overall on the year with half of his victories coming by pin.
In addition to Christopher's pin, Gettysburg received a pair of decisions against New York. Junior Luke Mitchell (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) defeated Sabino Galassi 7-5 at 184 and sophomore Abe Evans (Dover, Pa./Dover) picked up a 6-0 win over Adlee Fayyaz at 125.
Junior DJ Neri (Fairfax, Va./W.T. Woodson) registered his fourth pin of the year against Elizabethtown at 174, bringing down Kyle Deeds in 2:09. Neri narrowly missed a perfect day, dropping a 5-3 decision to NYU's Steve Massey.
Gettysburg returns to action next Saturday, Jan. 23, with a Centennial Conference quadrangular hosted by Johns Hopkins University and featuring Muhlenberg College and Ursinus College. Opening matches are slated for a noon start.
