LANCASTER, Pa. – The Gettysburg College men's soccer team was picked to finish sixth in the Centennial Conference according to the coaches' preseason poll released by the league office on Wednesday.
Gettysburg totaled 36 points in the poll to finish behind the predicted top-five squads. Defending champion Johns Hopkins University totaled seven first-place votes and 78 points to push ahead of Muhlenberg College, which tallied two first-place votes and 73 points. Swarthmore College racked up 66 points with Dickinson College, which received the remaining first-place nod, just one point behind. Franklin & Marshall College was predicted to take the fifth spot with 50 points.
McDaniel College (32 points), Haverford College (28 points), Ursinus College (17 points), and Washington (Md.) College (12 points) rounded out the remainder of the poll.
The Bullets went 8-7-2 overall last season, but missed the conference playoffs for the first time in five years with a 4-5 mark and seventh-place finish. Seven starters and 15 letterwinners are slated to return this fall under the direction of Acting Head Coach
David Wright, who enters his 18th season as Gettysburg's mentor, but first since 2002.
