Sophomore receiver Aden Twer made a spectacular 32-yard touchdown reception in the end zone from junior quarterback Kody Smith as time expired, and Gettysburg held off a furious Ursinus rally to win 40-34 in the Bullets home and Centennial Conference opener on Saturday. Twer's catch capped one of the top receiving performances in program history, as he tied a school record with three touchdown receptions and finished with the second-most receiving yards in a game with 179. Smith also turned in an outstanding game, completing 13-of-22 passes for 291 yards and four touchdowns. Junior tailback Ted Delia added 86 yards rushing while senior Rob Pennella kicked a pair of field goals - the first two of his collegiate career. Senior Peter Hak made a career-high 15 tackles while junior Mark Covington added a career-best 10 stops. The Bullets led 34-10 bin the third quarter before the Bears reeled off a 24-0 run, scoring three touchdowns and converting a two-point conversion on all three.

Dickinson jumped to a 28-0 halftime lead and the Red Devils defeated Juniata 35-6 in a Centennial Conference tilt in Carlisle on Saturday. The Eagles scored their first points of the season when Ward Udinski hit Julian Valdiserri with a 31-yard touchdown pass with 4:17 left in the game. The Bullets enter Saturday's game among the Centennial Conference leaders in nearly every offensive category, including scoring offense (second, 41.0 ppg), total offense (second, 460.5 ypg), and rushing offense (third, 211.0). Smith is the third-leading passer in the conference (229.0 ypg) and has piled up a conference-best 282.0 yards of total offense per game. His favorite target has been Twer, who leads the conference and is tied for 17th in Division III with 133.0 receiving yards per game, making 13 catches for 266 yards. A run-by-committee has produced four different players with at least 14 carries this season, with Delia leading the way with 60.0 yards per game. Freshman wing Freddy Caruso is tied with Twer for the team lead with three touchdowns - two receiving and one rushing.

THE GETTYSBURG DEFENSE
The Gettysburg defense held Ursinus in check early on Saturday, allowing the Bullets to control the tempo of the game and build a 34-10 lead midway through the third quarter. Hak has been the team's top performer early on, leading the team and tying for the conference lead with 23 tackles, including 19 solo stops. Junior linebacker Larry DelViscio and senior safety Joe Delaney have added 17 hits apiece while senior cornerback Rob Pennella has recorded three pass breakups to go with one interception, good for a conference-leading 2.00 passes defended per game.

THE GETTYSBURG SPECIAL TEAMS
Pennella has handled both the punting and place-kicking for the Bullets, averaging 38.5 yards per game, converting both of his field-goal attempts, and going 6-for-7 on extra points. Freshman Nick Ulassin has averaged 20.6 yards on 13 kickoff returns while Delia and sophomore Tommy LeNoir have split the punt-return duties, averaging 10.5 and 9.0 yards per return, respectively.

SCOUTING JUNIATA

THE COACHES

The Eagles are coached by Tim Launtz, who is in his first season as head coach after serving as an assistant for 15 years.

TWER POSTS PERFORMANCE FOR THE AGES
Twer posted one of the top receiving performances in program history versus Ursinus. He needed just five catches to rack up 179 yards, the second-most single-game total ever by a Bullet behind only Chris Notarfrancesco's 263 in 1994. His longest three catches of 81, 43, and 32 yards all went for touchdowns.

HAK, PENNELLA EARN POW HONORS

Hak racked up 15 tackles (11 solo), including a safety, and was named to the D3football.com national Team of the Week while Pennella kicked two field goals, converted a pair of extra points, and averaged over 37 yards per punt to pick up the Centennial Conference Special Teams Player of the Week selection.
