LANCASTER, Pa. – The Gettysburg College softball team grabbed the No. 2 position in the Centennial Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll released on Wednesday.
After two years at the top of the preseason ballot, Gettysburg slipped to second by the slimmest of margins this spring. The Bullets received 55 points to finish just one point behind Washington College. The Shorewomen received four first-place votes, while Gettysburg snagged two.
First-place votes were spread across four teams with McDaniel College earning two and defending Centennial champion Franklin & Marshall College grabbing one. The Green Terror finished third with 51 points and the Diplomats took fourth with 48 points.
Rounding out the poll in order were Ursinus College, Swarthmore College, Muhlenberg College, Dickinson College, and Haverford College.
The Bullets have advanced to the conference playoffs in each of the last three seasons and finished runner-up in both 2015 and 2017. Gettysburg faced down elimination twice on the final day of competition before falling to Franklin & Marshall 1-0 in the deciding game of the tournament last May.
Gettysburg opens the season with a non-conference doubleheader at the University of Mary Washington on Sunday, Feb. 25 at noon.
