Gettysburg opens season with two individual titles

THE SKINNY STORY
Gettysburg had five wrestlers place in the top four of their respective weight classes to finish fourth at the Tonee Ellis Invitational hosted by Alvernia. The Bullets finished with 96.5 points at the season-opening event.

THE LEADERS
Brendan Callahan (Woolwich Twp., N.J./Kingsway Regional) and Ethan Composto (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) each won their respective weight classes while Justin Richey (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) and Phil Nave (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) were third and Kyle Collins (Mastic Beach, N.Y./William Floyd) placed fourth.
• Callahan opened his day with an 18-2 technical fall after two periods before topping Delaware Valley's Lucas Tirpak 11-5 and Calvin Lederer (Shippensburg) 13-0 to advance to the semifinals. He pinned Muhlenberg's Jay Lenio in just 40 seconds before taking down the Mules' Andrew Loniewski 14-11 for the title at 141.
• Composto went 4-0 to win the title at 149. His day started with a 3-0 win over Delaware Valley's Devin Horton before recording a 15-7 decision over Aiden Swann (Alvernia). He added a 7-4 win in the semifinal before topping Delaware Valley's Sean O'Toole 10-2 in the championship bout.
• Richey went 3-1 to place third in at 165. After a bye in the opening round, he advanced to the semifinal with a 20-4 technical fall but fell to eventual champion Matt Lackman (Alvernia), 7-1. Richey pinned Delaware Valley's Ernazar Baishbekov late in the second period of the consolation semis before pinning Alvernia's Ryan Lapore in nearly the exact same time for third place.
• Nave was also third, going 4-1 at 197. He lost his opening bout 12-6 to Muhlenberg's Noah Schlofer before winning four in a row in the consolation bracket that included three straight falls – 2:49, 4:06 and 1:48 – to advance to the third-place bout, where he beat the Mules' Paul Parise, 7-4.
• Collins was fourth at 133, opening his day with back-to-back wins by 3-0 and 6-0 scores to make it to the semifinals. Antonio Intintoli relegated Collins to the consolation bracket with an 11-1 win in the semis. Collins then pinned Alvernia's James King in 1:31 before falling to Frank DiEsso (Muhlenberg) 8-2 in the third-place match.

FOR THE FOES
• Western New England won the team title at the 11-team invitational with 178 points, outdistancing second-place Muhlenberg by 52.5 points.

THE REST OF THE STORY
Justin Musmanno (West Windsor, N.J./West Windsor-Plainsboro North) went 4-2 at 141, falling a bout short of the consolation semifinals. He started his day with a pin midway through the second period before falling by major decision, 12-1. In the consolation bracket, Musmanno recorded a 19-5 major decision and 11-4 decision before winning by technical fall 16-0 midway through the second period but fell to Sebastiano Spina (Alvernia) 11-3 in the fifth round of the consolation bracket.
Noah Hinkel (Marietta, Pa./Donegal) debuted with a 3-2 day at 125. After dropping his first match 3-0, he won by fall in 1:58 before earning a forfeit win and 4-3 victory. His day ended with a 10-0 loss to Muhlenberg's Brian McCaw.
Torey Falkinburg (Brielle, N.J./Manasquan) went 2-2 at 141. He won his first match by fall just before the final horn of the second period before advancing to the quarterfinals with a 3-0 win over Isaiah Shilcosky (PSU-Altoona). He was then pinned midway through the second period and fell 10-3 in his only bout of the consolation bracket.
Andrew Fabian (Budapest, Hungary/Moricz Zsigmond Gimnazium) dropped a 3-0 decision to start his career but notched a 3-2 win over Western New England's Sam Worthing and then added a forfeit win before falling 1-0 to James Linder (WNE) to go 2-2 in his debut.
Tank Spelta (Elkridge, Md./Georgetown Prep), Jason Dubrasky (Staten Island, N.Y./Poly Prep), Ryan Gallagher (Fountainville, Pa./Pennridge), Sam Gouveia (Summit, N.J./Summit), Simon Taylor (Alexandria, Va./Woodbury Forest School) and James Doliscar (Bayshore, N.Y./Northfield Mount Hermon) all won a single match on the day. Spelta's win came by a 6-4 margin in the 125 consolation bracket. Dubrasky opened his day with a 3-0 win at 149 before falling in his final two. Gallagher opened his career at 174 with a bye and pin with 28 seconds remaining in the bout before his day ended with an injury default in the quarterfinals. Gouveia recorded a 9-6 win in sudden victory of the consolation bracket at 174. Taylor's day opened with a 6-minute, 26-second pin over Luciano Mazzeo before he dropped his final two matches by decision. Doliscar started his day with a 64-second pin.
