Gettysburg nabs team win at W&J Invite

Gettysburg finishes first

THE SKINNY STORY
Gettysburg had a representative in six of the 10 bracket finals, finishing with three first-place finishes and three second-place showings to win the 13-team Washington & Jefferson Invitational with 174 points.

THE LEADERS
• Ethan Composto (Westfield, N.J./Westfield), Joe Dietz (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield Memorial) and Justin Richey (Swickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) all won their respective weight classes to lead the Bullets.
• Composto won four matches at 149 for his second straight title. He opened with a 12-0 win before pinning W&J's Jackson Sandor in 4:48. In the semifinals, he had another match termination win, winning by technical fall 20-2 before winning by forfeit in the championship round.
• Dietz went 4-0 to win the 157 bracket. He recorded a pin late in the first period before back-to-back major decisions (11-3 and 17-3) before downing Fairmont's Jim Green 8-1 in the title tilt.
• Richey went 4-0 at 165 with three pins in his title run. His first pin came in 24 seconds before advancing to the semifinals with a 20-4 technical fall. In the semis, he downed Owen Cummings (Alfred State) in 2:46 before pinning Caullin Summers (Thiel) in 3:36 for the title.

FOR THE FOES
• Lycoming finished second in the team standings with 161 points.

THE REST OF THE STORY
• Noah Hinkel (Marietta, Pa./Donegal) finished second at 125 with a 4-1 day. His day opened with a 4-minute, 16-second pin of Thiel's EJ McCarthy before recording an 11-3 major decision win over Lycoming's Brayden Newman. Hinkle then added a second straight major decision 13-5 before advancing to the title tilt with an 8-3 win. Top-seeded Kaden Majcher downed Hinkle by technical fall, 17-1.
• Phil Nave (Venetia, Pa./Peters Twp.) placed second at 197. He started with a pair of first-period falls, including a 35-second pin of Alec Kapacs (Pitt-Bradford). He won by injury default in the semifinals before Nolan Fenton (Penn State-Behrend) pinned Nave in 57 seconds for the title at 197.
• Simon Taylor (Alexandria, Va./Woodbury Forest School) finished second at heavyweight. His day started with a 4-3 win before downing Aaron Johnson (Alfred State), 7-3. Taylor then added a first-period pin and forfeit win in the semis before top-seeded Robbie West (Lycoming) pinned him in 3:50.
• Brendan Callahan (Woolrich Twp., N.J./Kingsway Regional) placed third at 141. After an opening-round bye, he pinned Dylan Slovich (Pitt-Bradford) midway through the second period and then recorded a 12-3 major decision to advance to the semifinals, where he fell 12-3 to eventual champion Colton Stoneking (Fairmont State), 12-3. In the third-place bout, Callahan won, 4-3.
• Ean Wilson (Gardners, Pa./Boiling Springs) finished fifth at 157. He had a 46-second pin of Jayden Drummond (Lycoming) to start his day before falling to the consolation bracket, where he had two more pins in the first 22 seconds and then won the fifth-place bout with a pin at the end of the second period.
• Andrew Fabian (Budapest, Hungary/Moricz Zsigmond Gimnazium) opened with a 12-6 win at 149 before falling to the consolation bracket, where he wrestled his way back to a sixth-place finish with four straight wins – all by technical fall.
• Connor Hoefling (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) also placed sixth on the day, going 3-1 at 165. After a 4-minute, 30-second pin, he dropped a decision to Richey before adding two first-period pins in the consolation bracket.
• Tank Spelta (Elkridge, Md./Georgetown Prep) went 3-2 at 125, including a 4-minute, 36-second pin to start the day. He also added second-period falls in the consolation bracket.
• Danny Carrozza (Brookfield, Conn./Brookfield) and Torey Falkinburg (Brielle, N.J./Manasquan) had four and three wins, respectively, at 141. Carrozza started his day with a pin in 3:44 before recording a 4-minute, 21-second fall and 24-8 technical fall among his three consolation bracket wins. Falkinburg opened with a 9-1 win before recording a 17-2 technical fall and 11-7 win in the consolation bracket.
