LANCASTER, Pa. – Three members of the Gettysburg wrestling team have been named to the All-Centennial Conference (CC) team by virtue of their finishes at the championship on Feb. 15.
Justin Richey (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley), who won the title at 165, was a first-team honoree while
Ethan Composto (Westfield, N.J./Westfield), who was second at 149, and
Gavin Pascoe (Schwenksville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley), who was second at 157, were second-team honorees.
It was the second straight second-team honor for Pascoe.
Richey, the top seed, received an opening-round bye before getting a pin just before the expiration of time in the semifinal. In the championship bout, Richey held on to edge Ursinus' Braden Kmak, 14-12.
Composto, the second seed, finished second at 149. He notched a 15-0 technical fall early in the second period to open his day before edging Freddy Primental (Johns Hopkins) 6-4 in the semifinals. In a finals rematch with McDaniel's Thomas Monn, Monn held a 4-1 edge midway through the third period before a takedown and nearfall finished off an 11-1 major decision.
Pascoe, the second seed, finished second at 157. His day started with a 3-minute, 58-second pin over Fritz Maurath (Johns Hopkins) and 8-6 win over Edward Pinc (Merchant Marine) to advance to the title bout. Once again, it was a Green Terror getting the better of the battle with Xavier Howard winning, 7-3.
Composto was also Gettysburg's selection to the All-Sportsmanship Team.
The Bullets return to action at the NCAA Mideast Regional at Messiah on Friday and Saturday.
