LANCASTER, Pa. – Seven members of the Gettysburg women's swimming team have been named to the All-Centennial Conference (CC) team by virtue of their finishes at the championship on Feb. 19-22.
Mia Morreale (Short Hills, N.J./Millburn) earned first-team honors. Morreale,
Ava Berry (Raleigh, N.C./Sanderson),
Bramley Hawkins (Camp Hill, Pa./Camp Hill),
Maya Knoller (Bernardsville, N.J./Newark Academy) and
Lanie McKenzie (Wilmington, Del./Charter School of Wilmington) earned second-team accolades while Hawkins, McKenzie,
Valerie Lawton (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) and
Paige McKim (Robesonia, Pa./The King's Academy) were honorable mention.
Morreale brought home two gold medals and two silver medals at the championship. She claimed gold on Saturday night for the second straight year, winning the 200 free with an NCAA B-Cut time of 1:51.58. On Sunday, she added a second gold. She become the first Gettysburg swimmer to break the two-minute mark in the 200 backstroke, winning with an NCAA B-Cut time of 1:59.63 and shattering the 22-year-old championship record by 2.53 seconds in the process. She added an individual silver in the 200 IM on Friday night, knocking 1.06 seconds off her morning time to break the program record with an NCAA B-Cut time of 2:03.47.
Berry grabbed a silver medal in the 1650 free on Sunday, posting a time of 17:26.97.
Hawkins claimed an individual bronze in the 100 butterfly on Saturday night. After establishing a program record in the prelims with a time of 55.81 seconds, she missed that mark by a tenth of a second with a time of 55.91 in the finals. The morning time hit the NCAA B-Cut time.
Lawton picked up a pair of bronze medals, finishing third in the 50 free and 100 free. On Friday night in the 50 free, she posted with a time of 23.54 seconds, knocking 0.21 seconds off her fifth-place qualifying time in the morning and 0.10 seconds off the program mark. On Sunday, she finished the 100 free in a time of 51.48 seconds.
McKenzie took bronze in the 200 IM on Friday. McKenzie posted a time of 2:05.84 to place third.
McKim rounded out the individual medalists, taking bronze in the 1650 free. She claimed third place with a time of 17:43.88.
McKenzie, Knoller, Hawkins and Morreale captured the lone relay silver for the Bullets. The quartet posted a time of 3:52.92 in the 400 medley relay on Saturday night.
Knoller, Lawton, McKenzie, Morreale, Puckett and Reck will all swim at the NCAA Div. III championship meet because of the B-Cut times swam at the conference championship.
