BALTIMORE – Junior Bobby Christopher (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Cardinal Gibbons) and sophomore Abe Evans (Dover, Pa./Dover) each won three matches to lead the Gettysburg College wrestling team to a 1-2 record at a Centennial Conference quadrangular hosted by Johns Hopkins University.

Gettysburg (3-7, 2-2 CC) opened the day with a 37-17 victory over Muhlenberg College before dropping 37-9 and 28-22 decisions to Ursinus College and host Johns Hopkins, respectively.

The Bullets erased a 14-9 deficit against the Mules by winning four of the final five bouts. Senior Patrick Doherty (Garden City, N.Y./Chaminade) started the run with a pin of Patrick Gibson in 2:21 at 165 pounds. After a decision loss at 174, Gettysburg picked up a forfeit at 184 followed by a pin by freshman Marshall Puls (New York, N.Y./Hotchkiss) in 5:16 at 197. Christopher closed the victory with his first major decision win of the year 13-5 over Chris Galletta.

Evans, who won by forfeit against Muhlenberg, opened at 125 against Ursinus and came out with a high-scoring 16-15 decision over Conor Gregory. That would be Gettysburg's only win until Christopher pinned Anthony Greenstein in 2:28 at heavyweight.

Against Johns Hopkins, the Orange and Blue fell behind 22-0 as the Blue Jays won the first five matches. Gettysburg stormed back to tie the match with wins in the next four bouts, including Christopher's team-best ninth pin of the season in 1:09 and Evans first major decision (11-3) of the year. The comeback bid was stopped, however, as the Bullets were forced to forfeit at 133.

Gettysburg returns to action next Saturday, Jan. 30, with a quadrangular hosted by Wilkes University.
