Three Gettysburg runners claim all-region cross country honors

NEW ORLEANS, La. – Three members of the Gettysburg women's cross country team have been named all-region by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), released on Monday.

Gabrielle Thiry (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Country Day School), Ava Crawford (Swarthmore, Pa./Strath Haven) and Sarah Smith (West Chester, Pa./Unionville) earned the accolade after finishing in the top 35 at the NCAA Div. III Mid-Atlantic Regional meet on Saturday.

Thiry ran the Bullets' third-fastest 6,000-meter time ever and program's best on the Lock Haven course with a time of 21:43.4. She was the first Gettysburg runner to break 22 minutes in an NCAA regional race since 2009. She finished 16th in the field of 217 runners.

Crawford also turned in her best 6,000-meter time in a Bullets uniform with a time of 22:06.8 to place 23rd in the field.

Smith also posted a collegiate-best time of 22:19.0 to finish 32nd overall.

It was the first time since 1992 that three Gettysburg runners claimed all-region honors in the same season.

The Bullets recorded a third-place showing with 150 points to post their best team finish at an NCAA regional since 1992 when the squad was second.
