NEWVILLE, Pa. – Freshmen
Amanda Asaro (Mount Kisco, N.Y./Fox Lane) and
Ben Taber (Durham, Conn./Coginchaug Regional) turned in the top finishes for the Gettysburg College cross country teams at the Dickinson College Long/Short Invitational Saturday afternoon at Big Spring High School.
Asaro placed second out of 144 runners in the women's "Short" 4,000-meter race, finishing behind only Reynah Spence of Division II Shippensburg University in 14:49. Taber was 40th in a field of 139 men's "Short" 4K run, clocking a 13:17.
In the team standings, Gettysburg's women finished third among 12 teams while the Bullet men took sixth out of 13 schools.
Other top finishers in the women's "Short" race were sophomore
Alyssa Beyer (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg), who placed 26th in 15:49, and junior
Meagan Lesniak (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville), who was two seconds back in 27th. Two other Bullets came in less than seven seconds later, with sophomore
Julie Laudenschlager (Bay Shore, N.Y./West Islip) taking 29th in 15:57 and senior
Kaytie Innamorati (Carlisle, Mass./Concord-Carlisle) finishing 32nd in 15:58.
In the women's "Long" 6,000-meter race, freshman
Laura Duquette (Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra) took 22nd in a field of 164, finishing in 24:20. She was followed closely by senior
Alex Bull (Berwick, Pa./Berwick), who was 24th in 24:29.
Trailing Taber in the men's 4K was senior
Patrick Hill (Rumson, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven), who came in 43rd in 13:20. Sophomore
Tyler Sadka (Edgewater, Md./South River) was not far back, placing 46th in 13:24.
The top finishers in the men's "Long" 8,000-meter race were freshmen
Nathan Wojick (Milford, N.J./Delaware Valley Regional), who came in 48th out of 188 runners in 28:00, and John O'Connor (Loudonville, N.Y./Shaker), who was 49th in 28:01. Junior
Jeff Horvath (Meshoppen, Pa./Elk Lake) and sophomore
Nathan Cody (Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga Valley) crossed the line in 71st and 75th place, respectively, in 28:23 and 28:29.
Dickinson won the men's team title while NYU claimed the women's crown.
Gettysburg returns to action next Saturday, when it runs at the prestigious Paul Short Run, hosted by Lehigh University.
