It didn't take long for this 1974 PIAA state high school champion to find his niche on the collegiate level. Wrestling at 126-pounds, he won the first ten matches of his freshman year before battling defending ACC champion Dave Wendal, Virginia, to a 4-4 draw. He completed that season with a 16-0-1 record, was second in the Middle Atlantic Conference championships, but qualified for the NCAA tournament. He went on to win the NCAA Division III title with an explosive 4-2 win over Tim Borshaff, SUNY-Bringhamton.

He came back each succeeding year to win three Middle Atlantic Conference crowns, place second in the NCAA championships in 1975 and fifth in the same tournament in 1978.

He completed his collegiate career with 89 victories, 12 losses and one draw. His 89 wins and 29 career pins set College records at the time.

A Dean's List student, he graduated with a major in mathematics; received the Sprig Gardner Outstanding Wrestler Award; and the prestigious Beacham Award.
