Hall of Athletic Honor
With more than 70 singles and doubles victories during four letter-winning seasons, Cross stands as one of the most accomplished Bullet tennis players in program history. Starring on squads that also featured 1998 Hall of Athletic Honor inductee Cindy Prendergast, she helped Gettysburg win three Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) championships and establish its place as one of the region's top teams.
Cross began her collegiate career as the Bullets' No. 3 singles player in 1980 and won her first two matches without dropping a game. She went 9-2 on the year and teamed with Cathy Cramer to win the MAC doubles championship.
As a sophomore in 1981, she was 13-4 at No. 2 singles, posted a 12-1 record with Prendergast at No. 1 doubles and helped Gettysburg win the MAC team title. She went 6-1 at that season's EAIAW tournament, battling back for a fifth-place finish and earning All-Region honors.
During her junior campaign, Cross went 8-3 in singles competition as the Bullets captured another MAC crown. She concluded the 1982 season by winning both a singles match and a doubles match at the inaugural NCAA championships. As a senior in 1983, she won 19 of 22 matches and keyed Gettysburg's march to an 11-0 record, a third MAC title and its first NCAA team invitation.
A native of Wellesley, Mass., she graduated from Gettysburg in 1983 with a degree in English.
