Hall of Athletic Honor
He climaxed three successful years of athletics at Gettysburg College, during which time he won three varsity letters each in football and wrestling, by being named recipient of the coveted Beachem Award. It marked only the ninth time the award was presented.
He was a blocking back who broke into the starting lineup early in his sophomore year and finished his career with a string of 20 consecutive games, playing both offense and defense. Time and again articles depicting Gettysburg victories consistently spoke of the stellar quarterback whose blocking sparked the Bullets and whose defensive work stood head and shoulders above others.
In three regular varsity seasons of wrestling, he posted a 14-2 record. Eleven of his 14 wins were via pins. As a senior he pinned Temple's Walter Bain and went on to capture the Middle Atlantic Conference 155-pound title.
