Hall of Athletic Honor
A product of Darby, Pa., he was a history major and an exciting athlete, playing center on the football team, center in basketball and catcher in baseball.
Besides being an outstanding center, both offensively and defensively, he was also the kicking specialist. More than once his field goal or extra point was the winning margin.
As a basketball player, he could shoot and play defense well. He was the leading scorer throughout his three years, using those points to post last second wins over Ursinus and Navy. He utilized his baseball experience to sign a pro contract with the Philadelphia Athletics. However, that career ended abruptly with the beginning of World War II.
It was on Iwo Jima, March 6, 1945, that he gave his life for his country.
