Very few Gettysburg offensive centers have gained the recognition that he gained during his four years of football. He was described as fast, rugged, big (6', 120-pounds) and capable of not only playing every position, but 60 minutes in every game. Although he did not do it alone, he was instrumental in paving the way for Gettysburg's three-year rushing offense of 5,360 yards and at the same time holding the opposition to 2,237. When he wasn't anchoring the offensive line, he was playing linebacker on defense. One of his greatest thrills came on Father's Day, 1957, when he returned an intercepted pass 30 yards for a touchdown.

As a sophomore, he was given honorable mention All-State, but the following two years he was named to the third team All-State and the only two in front of him were the centers from Pitt and Penn State. In 1958 he received Little All-America honorable mention. Later he was named to the All-Marine first team which landed him a job as a linebacker for the Baltimore Colts and New York Jets.
