He also played a key role in the creation of the Gettysburg Hall of Athletic Honor in 1978.

Among his many accomplishments as the Orange & Blue advisory council's chairperson, he helped to raise over $5 million for the renovation of the Bream/Wright/Hauser Athletic Complex in the late 1980s. He instituted the Gettysburg College Golf Classic shortly after becoming the first Executive Director of the Orange & Blue Club in 1992, serving in that full-time capacity until his retirement in 1999.

He earned Gettysburg's Meritorious Alumni Award in 1986 and the College's Prestigious Alumni Award in 1993. A distinguished teacher, coach and administrator in the Littlestown Area School District for 35 years, he was inducted into the South Central Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame in 1996.

A native of Gettysburg, Pa., he graduated from the College in 1957 with a degree in health and physical education.
