This strong southpaw went on to become one of the premier pitchers in Gettysburg College history. Right from the very beginning of his career as a sophomore, he posted a 5-0 record. The wins were over Cornell, Dickinson (twice), Georgetown and F.&M. He had a good batting eye for a pitcher, driving in a run in the 5-3 win over Cornell. He took Gettysburg to the Eastern Regional Small College Tournament in Springfield, Mass., and immediately fired a no-hitter in a 2-0 win over St. Lawrence. His triple in the top of the ninth enabled him to win his own game.

His brilliance on the mound continued his junior year with a 9-0 win over Syracuse. He was 3-2 that year, but his losses were to Penn State and Lafayette. He fanned 42 batters and posted a 2.75 earned run average. He launched his senior year with losses to Villanova and Penn State, but bounced back to win five of his next six decisions. One of his victories was a 7-4 win over nemesis Lafayette in which he fanned 16 batters and was two-for-four at the plate. Several days later he struck out 10 batters in losing a hard fought 3-2 decision to Navy.

Dick completed his career with a 13-5 record, struck out 230 batters, walked 100 and posted an ERA of 2.31. In 82 trips to the plate, he batted a hefty .293.
