Known as an athlete who never quit, "Nails" was considered one of the best back-guards in basketball and was elected captain his junior year. He was elevated to that position by his teammates because of his good head work, speed and dependability. His main responsibility on the court was to disrupt the opponent's offense. He did it so well that Moravian and Bucknell were held to just six baskets each. He never scored a single point in the four years he played because of his position.

He was just as consistent and steady on the football field, playing as a 175-pound guard. There were many contests in which he played the full 60-minutes. In 1919, he played in all but the F&M game and that was an exceptional year. The team posted a 7-2 record with its only losses coming at the hands of Penn State and Bucknell and none of the remaining seven opponents scored a single point.

Following graduation he returned to serve his Alma Mater for almost 50 years. He retired in 1968 as associate professor of mathematics.
