Hall of Athletic Honor
In the early 30s, wrestling was a new sport at Gettysburg and few dared get on the mats for its bright young coach. A native of York, Pa., Carl was one such individual who met the challenge.
With no high school experience, he saw limited action as a freshman and sophomore. However, by the time his junior year rolled around he became more serious. He was a strong 126-pounder and posted a 3-1 record. His only loss was to Franklin and Marshall. During his senior year, he was undefeated in four regular season matches, including a thriller over Rentz, F& M, on a referee's decision in overtime
The Middle Atlantic Conference organized its first wrestling championship his final year. Serving as captain of the team, he climaxed his career by becoming Gettysburg's very first MAC champ.
