Hall of Athletic Honor
In each of her four years with the field hockey team, Potteiger earned a spot on the Susquehanna and Mid-East regional all-star teams and competed at the national tournament against the nation's best collegiate players. She was one of only a few players in program history to accomplish that feat. By the end of her first season in 1966, she had joined her sister, Ellen - a 1992 Hall of Athletic Honor inductee - as one of the team's premier forwards. For the remainder of her career, she was a fixture on the Gettysburg forward line.
In 1967, she scored seven goals and again earned a trip to the national tournament. A move from right inner to right wing in 1968 cut back her scoring production, but didn't prevent her from earning regional and national recognition for a third straight year. She returned to her familiar right inner forward spot as a senior in 1969 and proceeded to lead the team with a career-best eight goals. She was the captain of that 1969 team and was named the 1970 Gettysburg College Outstanding Female Athlete.
A native of Sinking Springs, Pa., she graduated Phi Beta Kappa in 1970 with a degree in English.
