Hall of Athletic Honor
He was a true triple threat football player from Darby, Pa. Calling all of the signals from his halfback position, he could run, pass, kick and punt with authority. He was regarded as the best long distance passer of his day.
There are many accounts of his exploits, but the most memorable include: a 19-yard run to beat Drexel, two touchdown passes to beat Western Maryland, a 66-yard punt which put F. and M. on its two-yard line to preserve a Bullet win, and he kicked a pair of extra points to beat Muhlenberg. He completed his senior year by throwing six TD passes and running for eight others.
Basketball was limited to one year. However, he became one of the top pitchers and outfielders for Ira Plank's baseball team. Following two years as a leading pitcher, he was moved to the outfield and batted third in the lineup. The move was made after he belted two long hits which helped beat Penn State his junior year.
