Hall of Athletic Honor
Thanks to an outstanding season with the freshman soccer team in 1967, McKee was already a known quantity when he burst onto the varsity scene the next year. He began delivering on that promise in his very first game, scoring a pair of goals in a 6-0 win over Muhlenberg on September 25, 1968 to make a winner out of new coach Bob Smith.
In 1969, he broke the program’s 22-year-old record for goals in a season by finding the net 13 times, a mark that went unmatched for 18 more years. The two-time captain saved his best for last that season, tallying a career-high four goals, including the game-winner with seven minutes remaining, in a 6-5 victory over Franklin & Marshall on November 12, 1969. For his efforts, he earned a spot on the Middle Atlantic Conference’s all-western division first team.
In addition to his soccer exploits, he became one of the top goaltenders in the history of Gettysburg men’s lacrosse, providing the backbone for a young program returning to varsity status after an eight-year hiatus. His 483 career saves stands as the highest three-year total in program history and he remains the only Gettysburg goalie to make at least 30 saves in a game three times.
A native of Lutherville, Md., he graduated in 1971 with a degree in mathematics.
