If there was an individual athlete at Gettysburg that best exemplified the meaning of clutch, it may have very well been Nancy Loh, whose leadership and playmaking abilities led to the school’s first national championship in any sport.

Loh was a guiding force for the field hockey team from 1978 to 1981, playing as a link. She was a two-time All-Middle Atlantic Conference All-Star, earning second-team honors in 1979 and honorable mention in 1981. In the former year, Loh helped the Bullets capture the MAC Championship, netting a goal in the title game and connecting on the clinching score in the flick-off.

The highlight of her career came in 1980 when she led the team to the Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women Division III Championship. Loh scored three goals in the national tournament, including two in the quarterfinals against Denison.

Of her 13 career goals, nine were scored during postseason play with two being game-winners in the AIAW Championships. Loh, who was a team captain in 1981, was also a key component of a defensive unit that posted 25 shutouts in four seasons, including a school record 10 in 1980.

Also an accomplished tennis player, she accrued a record of 18-5 as a member of the Bullet tennis team in 1979 and 1980.

A native of Southport, Conn., Loh graduated from Gettysburg with a degree in political science.
