Jack Hathaway succeeded in utilizing his athletic gifts to become a two-sport standout in soccer and basketball while attending Gettysburg.

Following a successful stint as the goalkeeper on the freshman soccer team, Hathaway took over a starting spot at fullback on the varsity squad and quickly developed into one of the most steadfast defenders in the Middle Atlantic Conference, earning All-MAC Honorable Mention as a junior and a senior.

Hathaway played a key role in one of the most successful seasons of soccer at Gettysburg, guiding the Bullets to an impressive 9-1-2 record and second-place finish in the MAC North Division in 1957. He started all 12 contests and helped the team post three shutouts.

On the hardwood, Hathaway was a three-year starter as a guard, playing in 66 games and totaling 311 points and 202 rebounds out of the backcourt. His best season of basketball was his last when he averaged 5.0 points and 3.6 rebounds per game.

In addition to his athletic talents, Hathaway also served as the president of the Varsity “G” Club as a senior and was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity.

A native of Towson, Md., Hathaway graduated from Gettysburg in 1959 with a degree in psychology.
