Andrew Barter was a formidable force in front of the cage during his four years at Gettysburg.

At 6 feet, 4 inches tall and 220 pounds, Barter created a sizeable wall for opponents to try to shoot through, but it was his speed and skills with the stick that set him apart from his peers. He dominated the cage in the late 90s, leading the conference in save percentage three times and in goals against average four times. As a freshman, Barter helped the Bullets score their first-ever win over the nation’s top team, stopping 20 shots in a 10-9 win over Salisbury.

Barter was named an All-American in each of his final three campaigns and twice he was named the conference Player of the Year. In 1999, he was given the Ensign C. Markland Kelly Jr. Award as the NCAA Division III Goalie of the Year. That same season, Barter set conference standards for save percentage (.677) and goals against average (5.81). Barter also continued his stance against top-ranked teams as a junior, posting a career-high 25 saves in a victory over defending national champion Washington College.

Barter led Gettysburg to three conference titles and four appearances in the NCAA Tournament. He finished with a school-record 47 victories inside the cage.

A native of North Brookfield, Mass., Barter graduated from Gettysburg with a degree in French.
