Hall of Athletic Honor
On September 15, 1973, Roddy made his collegiate cross country debut, finishing third at the first annual Lebanon Valley Invitational as Gettysburg placed eight runners in the top ten to win the meet. On April 3, 1974, he put his distance-running talents to work with the Gettysburg track & field team, and the Bullets defeated Johns Hopkins and Albright in a tri-meet. Five days later, with Roddy again winning the two-mile run, Gettysburg stunned defending conference champion Juniata, 73-63. A new era of distance-running dominance had begun.
During his four years at Gettysburg, Roddy helped the cross country and track and field teams post an amazing combined record of 79-17. He earned All-America status as a cross country runner in 1976 and again as a member of the track & field team in 1977. He was a two-time Middle Atlantic Conference champion in the three-mile run. He led Gettysburg to three MAC cross country championships and a pair of MAC track and field titles.
A native of Mapleton, N.J., he graduated in 1977 with a degree in political science.
