When you go back into the early years of the softball program at Gettysburg College, it is easy to see why the team was so successful, thanks to one of the most dominant left-handed pitchers in school history.

Judy Langan was part of arguably the greatest pitching duo in program history, teaming with fellow Hall of Honor inductee Sue Marshall ’85 to dominate the Middle Atlantic Conference. Langan was the first Gettysburg hurler to toss a no-hitter, accomplishing the feat twice in her debut season against Washington and Mount St. Mary’s. She earned the first of her three All-MAC First Team accolades in 1982 and showed no signs of slowing down in a super sophomore campaign. Langan won all 11 of her starts in 1983, while posting a miniscule 0.64 ERA, which ranked third in the entire country.

The fledgling softball program did not waste time staking its claim as a championship contender with Langan helping the Bullets reach the postseason for the first time in 1984 and then again in 1985. As a senior, she went 10-1 with a 1.02 ERA and a career-high 65 strikeouts over 75.2 innings. Gettysburg went 22-2 overall and 10-0 in conference play.

Langan held a multitude of records for more than a decade after graduation, including career wins (35), shutouts (7), and strikeouts (195).

A native of Yorktown Heights, N.Y., Langan graduated from Gettysburg with a degree in business.
