Hall of Athletic Honor
A native of Kutztown, Pa., she came to Gettysburg with no competitive experience in field hockey. However, she advanced so quickly that she became a starter. In three years, she played on two undefeated teams and played a key role in Gettysburg's 16-2-2 record during her varsity career. In 1953, she was named to the first team All-Southern College and three times made the All-Mideast elite squad.
She played a major part in the progressive success of the basketball teams, which went from a 3-2-2 record in 1950-51 to a 9-1 slate her senior year. During her three varsity years, the team posted a 17-7-3 record. As a senior, she was the second leading scorer with a 9.4 average.
Not only was she a premier female athlete, but her academics were of the highest standard. She graduated magna cum laude and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.
