Nate Grim was a one of the most successful throwers in the history of the Gettysburg men’s track and field program.

Grim claimed his first spot on the all-conference team as a sophomore, placing third in the shot put at both the Centennial Conference indoor and outdoor championships. He came right back with a strong junior season, taking third in the indoor shot put. After an outstanding outdoor season that saw him win the shot put six times, Grim picked up his first conference title in the event with a meet record. He also captured the Centennial title with a meet record in the discus.

In 1997-98, Grim was at the height of his success. During the indoor season, he set school records in both the shot put and the weight throw. He claimed second at the CC Championships in the shot put. When the outdoor season opened, Grim was poised for a final run at the record books. He won the shot put seven times, including shattering the conference record and reaching an NCAA qualifying distance with his second conference title. At the national meet, Grim’s final collegiate throw reset his school and conference records at 55 feet, 1.5 inches. He placed second overall, becoming Gettysburg’s highest national finisher in a field event.

A native of Leesport, Pa., Grim graduated from Gettysburg with a degree in sociology.
