Coming out of Bishop Carroll High School, she made quite an impression her freshman year. She won the Middle Atlantic Conference 200-butterfly and 100-fly, both in school record times. She was also named winner of the Jimmy McAdoo traveling trophy. She qualified for the AIAW Championship, earning All-America status in the 50 and 200-butterfly.
She was the leading scorer on the team as a sophomore with 30 first places, 19 individual and 11 relays. As a junior, she won two more conference titles and placed a strong fourth in the 200-fly at the national championships.
Throughout her career she played a major role in launching the Gettysburg women to the level of conference dominance that it reached and maintained throughout the waning years of the 20th century. Starting with her sophomore year in 1979, Gettysburg's women lost only one conference title in 18 years.
