From the first time he took the mound as a freshman in 1985, Golden left no doubt that he would be the program's No. 1 arm for the next four years.

In his first collegiate start on Apr. 9, 1985, he held Bucknell to two runs on six hits while striking out 10 batters. Four days later, he fanned a career-high 15 to pick up his first collegiate victory in a 3-1 win over Muhlenberg.

He helped the Bullets win the Middle Atlantic Conference championship in 1986 by winning each of his last three starts and also posted four victories as Gettysburg repeated its conference title the following season. In his breakout senior campaign of 1988, he won a career-best eight games, topped Division III with a program-record 125 strikeouts, tossed two no-hitters in a two-week span (the program's first in 30 years) and led the Bullets to their first NCAA tournament appearances in 26 years. For his efforts, he was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals and spent three seasons in that organization.

In addition to baseball, he earned three letters as a sprint freestyle specialist with the swimming team and helped Gettysburg's 200-yard medley relay team set a program and conference record in 1987.

A native of Pine Bush, N.Y., he graduated from Gettysburg in 1988 with a degree in psychology.
