Hall of Athletic Honor
One of the most consistent golfers in Gettysburg history, Krauss led the Bullet men through an unprecedented era of success. In his three varsity seasons, Gettysburg posted a combined record of 40-9 and twice enjoyed its best-ever showing at the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) championship tournament, including the program's first conference title in 1971.
He quickly established himself as one of the squad's best during his sophomore campaign in 1969, firing a blistering 73 against American University to earn medalist honors in his first collegiate match. He carded a season-low 72 in Little Three victories over Dickinson and Franklin & Marshall, and helped the Bullets to a third-place showing at that year's MAC University Division championship meet.
As a junior in 1970, he continued to shoot in the 70s as the Bullets rolled to a 13-2 record and a sixth-place finish at the MAC tournament. His finest moment, however, came as a senior at the 1971 MAC championships. On the strength of a final-round, course-record score of 71, he finished one stroke behind the individual medalist as the Bullets stunned defending champion American for their first conference crown. It was only the third MAC title attained by any Gettysburg team over the previous decade.
A native of Easton, Pa., he graduated from Gettysburg in 1971 with a degree in business administration.
