Hall of Athletic Honor
"Del" was a 6'6" forward who made a favorable impression from the very beginning when he led the freshman team in scoring. Following three years of varsity competition, his career records showed an enviable 1,068 points in 75 games and 938 rebounds, a school record which stood the test of time.
He started his career with eight points and 13 rebounds in a game against Temple and finished it three years later with a 30 point and 20 rebound performance against Franklin and Marshall. He grabbed a school record 379 rebounds his senior year which lasted four decades. He was on a roll his senior year, snaring the team's top scoring honors in 13 of the Bullets' 26 games. In one of those contests, a loss to Villanova, he and All-America George Raveling went head-to-head. Warfel scored 23 points and Raveling set a new Villanova record with 27 tallies.
He was given honorable mention All-America and was named to the All-State and all-conference teams. He was one of the few players in the country listed among both the NCAA scoring and rebounding leaders.
