Pete Casares led the well-established men’s swimming program to new heights during his collegiate tenure.

Gettysburg was a perennial conference contender when Casares arrived on campus in the fall of 1994 and he took a lead role in continuing that legacy. He emerged as one of the team’s top swimmers from the outset of his career, setting school marks in each of the fly events and contributing to a Centennial Conference team championship during his first year.

In 1995-96, Casares captured three individual titles and two relay crowns at the league championship meet. He recorded NCAA qualifying times in the butterfly events, a feat he would duplicate in each of his final two campaigns.

Casares’ senior year stands as one of the greatest in the history of the men’s swimming program. After completing the first undefeated dual meet season in school history, the Bullets claimed the conference crown for the fourth consecutive season. At nationals, the team and Casares raised the bar to a new level. Casares claimed All-America status in five events, including the 100 fly and 200 fly. Gettysburg finished 12th as a team – its highest placement ever on the national stage. Casares would close his career holding eight program records.

A native of Glastonbury, Conn., Casares graduated from Gettysburg with a degree in psychology.
