Maureen Andrews ’95 carved her own legacy while playing alongside two current members of the Hall of Athletic Honor – Ann Hymes ’96 (HOAH ’11) and Kelly Geise ’95 (HOAH ’14). The 5-10 guard from Altoona, Pa., set the stage for her teammates to put together outstanding careers, while making her own way to the Hall.
“She made everyone on the floor a better basketball player,” said former head women’s basketball coach
Mike Kirkpatrick. “Ann was going to be a Hall of Honor player. Kelly was going to be a Hall of Honor player. But they would not have been the same players without Maureen and their teams would not have been as successful.”

Andrews took over the starting role at point guard and led the team in assists (92), blocked shots (24), and steals (43) as a freshman. One year later, she put her name down in the record books as the only player in program history to notch a triple-double, accomplishing the feat twice. Andrews posted 11 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists against York (Pa.) College in December and just one month later, she turned in 18 points, 10 rebounds, and 11 assists against Juniata College. She averaged a career-high 11.4 points per game as a sophomore, while pacing the team in both assists (162) and blocked shots (22).
Despite high hopes heading into 1993-94, Gettysburg was left scrambling as its star point guard was unable to play the first half of the season due to a knee injury. Andrews appeared in just 10 games, helping the team win six of those contests.
The Bullets lived up to their potential in 1994-95 behind the terrific trio of Andrews, Geise, and Hymes. All three garnered All-Centennial Conference accolades after steering the team to 20 victories and a spot in the NCAA Division III Tournament. Andrews dished out 11 assists as Gettysburg knocked off the top team in the region, the University of Scranton, in the opening round of the national playoffs. She once again led the team in assists (136) and blocked shots (17) for the year.
Despite missing most of her junior campaign, Andrews still managed to finish among the program’s top three in assists (407), blocked shots (70), and steals (150). She averaged 9.2 points and 6.4 rebounds per game.
Andrews graduated from Gettysburg with a degree in management in 1995.
“Maureen Andrews deserves to be in the Hall of Athletic Honor because there has never been a better basketball player at Gettysburg College,” said Kirkpatrick.
