Cynthia Hoenes left a mark on the women’s tennis program that has not been duplicated and rarely approached in the two decades since her graduation.

Hoenes solidified Gettysburg as a power in the newly-formed Centennial Conference in the mid-90s. She quickly rose through the singles and doubles lineups and never had a losing record during her time on the court. As a sophomore in 1995, she gained her first all-conference accolade after managing an impressive 17-3 singles record, including a perfect 10-0 mark against Centennial foes.

In 1996, Hoenes and the Bullets realized new heights as the team mended its way to the first conference title in program history with a 19-1 overall record, including an unbeaten 10-0 mark in conference play. Hoenes was tagged All-CC First Team after posting a combined record of 36-3 in singles and doubles competition. Hoenes capped her tenure by being named the program’s first CC Player of the Year in 1997 along with first-team all-conference honors in both singles and doubles.

As of her induction, Hoenes remains the only women’s tennis player in school history to reach 100 combined victories in singles and doubles play.

A native of Absecon, N.J., Hoenes graduated from Gettysburg with a degree in history.
