Hall of Athletic Honor
Injuries prevented him from completing three full varsity years. However, he left an indelible mark for the two seasons in which he played. He was a 5'6", 145-pound halfback who dazzled audiences all over the East with his fancy running ability and long runs. He was the complete player, a running back, defensive back, punt returner, kickoff returner and excellent pass receiver. As a junior, he set a school record with nearly 800-yards rushing and he scored nine touchdowns. In naming him to their All-State first team, the Associated Press called him "one of the best running backs in the East."
He went on to win the Maxwell Club Award twice. Because the committee thought he was a senior, he was selected to play for the North team in the annual North-South senior Shrine game in Alabama.
As a track sprinter, he was never beaten in dual meet competition in the 100,200 or the long jump. He also ran on the mile relay team, which placed fifth in the annual Penn Relays.
