Hall of Athletic Honor
He was the ideal player for Coach Bob Hulton. He was aggressive and strong on the boards, but calm under pressure. He played on a team that was still competing day in and day out against the likes of Lehigh, Lafayette, Delaware, Bucknell, LaSalle, Temple and St. Joseph's. He had to compete against the best for honors. He had teammates who posted big numbers, but none possessed his consistency.
In each of his three varsity seasons, he averaged between 10 and 12 rebounds a game, finishing with a career 11.1. He averaged 11.5 points per game. His 808 career rebounds is second best in the College's history.
He played a key role in leading the Bullets into a second place finish in the MAC western division his junior year. That led to a conference showdown with St. Joseph's Hawks, led by Mike Bantom. Gettysburg lost to the Hawks in the Palestra, but not before Bill had scored 10 points and grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds, two more than Bantom. Following the final game of his senior year, he was selected to play with the Philadelphia All-Stars against the New York City All-Stars at St. John's University. He led his team to victory with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
