11793Months after his graduation from Gettysburg, Kenworthy became the College’s first Sports Information Director on September 1, 1959. From his very first event (a Gettysburg football game against Bucknell on September 26, 1959 in Hershey) until his retirement in 1999, he dedicated four decades to publicizing the accomplishments of hundreds of Gettysburg teams and thousands of Bullet athletes.

One of the true pioneers of the profession and a ground-breaking early member of College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), he set the standard for sports information directors nationwide as Gettysburg’s athletic program evolved from 12 to 23 varsity sports.

He was honored with CoSIDA’s prestigious Warren Berg Award for years of outstanding service in 1989 and inducted into the CoSIDA Hall of Fame in 1990. He received the Irving Marsh Service Award from the Eastern College Athletic Conference Sports Information Directors Association (ECAC-SIDA) in 1991 and was inducted into the South Central Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame in 1994. In addition, both CoSIDA and ECAC-SIDA annually present Bob Kenworthy Good Person Awards to members who exhibit his exemplary combination of professional excellence and community service.

The sports editor of the Gettysburgian and the sports director of the campus radio station while at Gettysburg, he graduated with a degree in English.
