When the curtain fell on his spectacular career, he had won 63 matches and lost one. He was four-time Middle Atlantic Conference champion and twice named the conference's most valuable wrestler, something no other Gettysburg wrestler could claim through the 20th century.

He played a little baseball, but wrestling was his favorite.

He began a coaching career in 1956 which lasted over 28 years. During that time he became the winningest scholastic wrestling coach in the country with over 400 victories and a combination of 19 district and state championships.
