Hall of Athletic Honor
The "Gentle Giant" from Merrick, N.Y., thrilled many fans with his exploits on the wrestling mats as well as on the football field. He wrestled at 190-pounds and played both offensive and defensive tackle on the gridiron.
In four years of collegiate wrestling, he won 50 matches and lost only five. He pinned 27 opponents and was never pinned himself. He won two conference championships, a silver medal in the Wilkes Tourney, a gold in the Senior Metro AAU freestyle championships and competed in the NCAA Division I championships in Iowa.
He distinguished himself on the mats following graduation, winning an international tournament in Egypt and making the finals of the 1964 Olympic Trials.
He was a consistent and disciplined lineman on the football team, paving the way for the Bullets' great running backs of the late 50s.
