Never missing a match or tournament during his four seasons at Gettysburg, Poet culminated his superlative collegiate career on the links by becoming the program's first-ever Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) champion in 1975.

He finished among the team's top three golfers five times during his freshman season in 1973 and placed second on the team at that year's MAC championships. He bookended his sophomore campaign by carding a 77 in a season-opening win over Mt. St. Mary's and shooting a career-best 73 in the season finale against Western Maryland and Loyola. Again that season, he finished second on the team at the conference tournament.

His finest moment came at the MAC championships on April 27 and 28, 1975. After shooting consistently in the 70s over the course of his junior season, he recorded a 36-hole score of 150 to become the Bullets' first conference champion. In the process, he led Gettysburg to a second-place finish out of 22 teams.

As the squad's lone senior and team captain the following year, he fired his first career hole-in-one en route to a season-best score of 74 in a win over Lafayette on April 7, 1976.

A native of Red Lion, Pa., he graduated from Gettysburg in 1976 with a degree in business.
