Hall of Athletic Honor
He was a three sport athlete out of Carlisle, Pa., who won nine varsity letters. "Moe" played football for four years as a glue- fingered end. His big game, as a sophomore, was a 43-7 win over Ursinus in which he caught touchdown passes of 55 yards and 61 yards. The win gave Gettysburg the conference crown.
As a center on the basketball team, he scored 16 points in his very first varsity game. He built a reputation as a free throw artist, landing 75 percent of his total shots. Playing three positions in baseball, his batting average rose from .200 his sophomore year to .368 as a junior and .309 in his senior year. He played a major role in Gettysburg's conference title his junior year.
He was one of 43 seniors who went right into the military service following graduation and was one of 50 out of 250 to survive a German U-Boat torpedo.
